After playing my Thumb BO 4 for a few months now, I have become mildly dissatisfied with the tone of the D & G strings while playing at gig volume. The sound a bit thin and tinny to me compared to the E & A. Obviously the lower the string, the deeper and meatier the note and tone, I just think that the top 2 are unreasonably light, proven in part I guess when compared to my other basses. Around the house I havent noticed any real issues. just seems that when the going gets loud, the high end turns to tinny rubbish.

Could this be fixed by running different pick ups in it? (Barts/EMG's etc)

Maybe a different pre-amp could help too?

Or, am I nuts? Do I just need to try and wrangle my EQ settings into doing the right thing? My experiments so far havent yielded any good results. (I run a GK 700RB into a GK 410 RBH) If I boost the mids too much, the lower range gets a bit out of control.

Any tips or tricks would be welcomed with open arms!

thanks man , hope you enjoyed, well i guest if you get stacked vol and balance and bass treble ,and drill some extra holes you can do your destination for your bass, I change the coils because in the bridge single coil I wanted a more body ,a deeper sound, and for the neck single coil im looking for a P bass sound, when you combined both,it really sounds sweet, take a look to the wires on the picture I posted, try it on yours!!!

I doubt there is any difference between pots (of the same impedance), but when I dropped the STC3A in my SS2, I found the SD pots to feel more smooth and quiet. The detent was more defined too, but prolly just cuz they were new.

P.S. I had to modify my stacked W knobs to get them to fit on the stacked SD pot tho...larger OD on the pan (or bass) and deeper on the vol (or treb).
